Holidays are all about having fun, letting loose and trying something new. It might be as simple as discovering a dish you’ve never heard of before or it could be something more extreme like attempting a new activity.
Adventurous people are also determined and curious people. This is why the average beach holiday is never going to satisfy them. Lying about with a book in the sun simply isn’t enough to engage their imagination.
So which holidays are best for adventurers?
Skiing is a lot of fun and, though it does depend largely on the season, it is suitable for the whole family. There are plenty of resorts to choose from and you can even get a catered ski chalet for your whole group too. This is ideal as it means that you won’t need to worry about anything but your ski experience.
Lots of ski resorts offer far more than just skiing. Many come with spa resorts, opportunities to go sledding and snowshoeing. This means that non-skiers can also have a brilliant holiday while the adventurous lot go flying down mountains! Of course, you can also take some ski lessons if you are new to the slopes and there will be beginners’ classes for kids and adults alike.
Give SCUBA diving a go
SCUBA diving is about as close as you will get to visiting another planet. There are all kinds of weird and wonderful aliens here you won’t find anywhere else. Once you have your buoyancy down, you will feel like you are flying through the water, a sensation that will truly make you forget any swimsuit anxiety you may have.
Kids as young as 10 can take up SCUBA diving and there’s no upper age limit to speak of as long as you are in good health. The most important thing is that you are able to swim confidently and you are happy to be around fish! If you are nervous, you’ll be pleased to know that some of the best coral reefs are only a couple of meters deep so you won’t ever be more than a few seconds from the surface.
Take a hike
Hiking is another brilliant way to see new things. There are plenty of amazing trails around the world that range from single day to multi-day adventures. Whether you are fascinated by the Inca trail or want to challenge yourself with the Everest Base Camp, hiking is perfect for active and adventurous people.
Of course, you don’t have to follow a particular route. There are lots of national parks around the world that allow wild camping and could be ideal for exploration. Just make sure that you are kind to the local environment and leave your campsite exactly as you found it.
The desire to explore and discover new things is inherent to being human. We all have a child-like curiosity about the world around us and your holiday time is the best opportunity you have to fulfil that desire to learn.
