Dublin is the largest city in Ireland as well as the capital. Part of the Wicklow Mountains located on the east coast of the bay of the Irish Sea and the River Liffey, Dublin is a popular tourist town with plenty to see and do.
The city was established before the 7th century by the Gaels before being expanded to become a Viking settlement. After the Norman Invasion, the city grew quickly and became the capital of the Free State of Ireland in 1922.
Dublin also has a population of over 1.3 million, so you know it is a fabulous place to visit any time of year. And two things that the Irish love to do is eat and drink. But be sure to drop off your bags with a luggage storage place in Dublin first, and then head out for a fabulous meal.

- Gerry’s Coffee Shop
If you love breakfast food, Gerry’s on Montague has you covered. Start your day right with a full Irish breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, white and black puddings and beans. They also serve porridge, sandwiches, and salads. Their Irish salad is unique with corn, beets and potato salad on greens and coleslaw.
Their main dinner choices vary day-to-day depending on what is good and fresh. But they all come with potatoes whether you want them baked or mashed. Their homemade pies are very popular, and you should not miss the soup of the day with soda bread.
- O’Flaherty’s Pub
You get live music and entertainment at O’Flaherty’s Pub on Crown Alley. The traditional fish and chips meal with mushy peas is fantastic and Irish beef with braised veggies comes with mashed potatoes soaked in butter. You can also get burgers, steaks, bangers and mash or cottage pie.
If you are just looking to try some of the traditional tastes, try their finger food menu. They have two options. One has an Irish beef slider, crumbled chicken, onion rings and scampi. The other features chicken liver, goat’s cheese and beetroot tarts, haddock bites or pork and black pudding.
Lovinspoon on N. Frederick Street has a variety of Irish delights in a casual café. The atmosphere is fun, the staff are friendly, and the food is fantastic. And the locals say it is the best breakfast fry in town. They serve other meals, but they are famous for their breakfast foods.
The big fry has bacon, eggs, sausage, beans, toast, white and black pudding, mushrooms, and pancakes. You can also get porridge, scones, or an omelette. Dinner is typically Irish stew, fish and chips or burgers. They are all served with your choice of potato and Greek salad.

This well-known establishment in Parnell Square serves dishes that you have to take pictures of because they are so amazing. They even have a Michelin star, so you know they are good. Some of their lunches include salt marsh duck, stuffed rabbit or bluefin tuna tartare.
For dinner, try the Mille Feuille of Sean Ring chicken with truffles, lobster with courgetti and mango or salt marsh duck with smoked black pudding. For a pre-theatre meal, you can have smoked duck breast with violet artichoke, leg of lamb with stuffing or a warm crab pancake with haddock.
- The Pig’s Ear
You’ll find The Pig’s Ear on Nassau Street across from College Park where you can start with ravioli of duck, scallop ceviche, or butternut squash soup. Main courses include BBQ pork with roast pineapple and onion, toasted spelt with egg and mushrooms or roast cod with celeriac, beans and shrimp.
For dessert, you will find gubbeen with dried figs and biscuits, raspberry and vanilla mille feuille, and chocolate custard with peanut butter ice cream and puffed rice. Or try the walnut whip, which is a specialty dessert only served at The Pig’s Ear.
On Lower Camden Street with a view of the Iveagh Gardens, Delahunt is famous for their scotch eggs and single pot still whiskey. This place gives you a fine dining experience within a cavernous bookstore. Many come to drink, some come to read but all come to eat.
The chicken Kiev is swimming in garlic butter and comes with corn (still on the cob) and twice-cooked fries. They also serve wild Irish venison and shiitakes with bacon and blue cheese mash or smoked trout, hake, and haddock with gubbeen, prawns, and mussels. And their bangers and mash dish is paired with gravy and onion rings.

- Queen of Tarts
This quaint café with a cute name has a huge variety of cakes and other delicious choices. Their two locations include Cows Lane and Dame Street. You can get Baileys cheesecake with chocolate chips and Baileys Irish Cream, Victorian sponge cake with fresh berries and preserves or a pecan tart with rich Belgian chocolate.
Flourless options include chocolate and strawberry roulade, lemon and blueberry cheesecake, chocolate and raspberry cheesecake, orange Seville cake, fudge cake and raspberry and almond cake. Or try the brownies, cupcakes, cookies, or biscotti. They also serve breakfast, brunch and lunch.
- Manning’s Bakery
This famous shop has three locations including Blanchardstown Shopping Center, the Square on Tallaght and Thomas Street. You can expect nothing less than perfect from any of these locations because they have been baking perfection for 60 years. According to the locals, they have the best cake in Dublin.
But they also serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner items from sandwiches to roasts. Have a custard cream slice or a chocolate gateau. Grab a scone and coffee for a quick snack at the mall or you can even order a large meal or cake to pick up and eat somewhere else.
- Cloud Nine Temple Bar
If you are looking for ice cream or gelato, head over to Temple Bar across from the River Liffey. You get an exquisite flavourful delight with a fantastic view. Some of their awesome flavours include forest fruit cheesecake, salted caramel, tiramisu, orange chocolate and pistachio.
They also serve donuts, crêpes, pancakes and the best coffee in town, according to the locals. Their flavours change often, so one week they may have bubblegum and Baileys, and the next time they could be serving Kinder and banana cherry. Try something new.
Having five restaurants with Michelin stars, the city is full of fantastic foodie spots to try. Enjoy the local foods like Irish stew, corned beef and cabbage, boxty (potato pancakes), crubeens (boiled pig’s feet) and shepherd’s pie. But don’t forget dessert.
