When I first looked into booking a trip to the Seychelles from London, I was thrilled to find that British Airways were about to launch a direct 10-hour flight on their Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet. For me, this made the Seychelles very accessible and even more appealing than before. Flying into Seychelles International Airport, it is then only a 30-minute drive to reach the hotel.

Upon arrival at The H Resort I was impressed by the stunning grand entrance with its high ceilings and exquisite chandelier made of shells. Beautiful murals including one by British artist Elizabeth Saddler adorned the walls and relaxing seating areas looking onto a white sandy beach and swaying palm trees. I felt full of promise for the week ahead.

The H Resort is a boutique hotel located on the northwest coast of the island of Mahé, only a 30-minute drive from the international airport. There are 100 rooms in the resort featuring both beach villas with private swimming pools and luxury suites. Our suite felt homely, modern and spacious. Its highlight was the larger than life freestanding bath tub and the balcony was a fantastic sun trap with views overlooking the hotels gardens. One evening it was lovely to sit there with a pre-dinner drink and watch a group on their company trip enjoy a game of pétanque.

With seven local and international restaurants to choose from we had a new exciting option for every night of our stay if we so wanted. The delicious buffet breakfasts were served in Vasco’s, named after the Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama, who discovered the Seychelles islands on his voyage to India. One evening we had the pleasure of dining at Seyshima, their Teppanyaki and Sushi restaurant. We enjoyed the interactive Teppan show with a very animated and entertaining chef. It was a lot of fun getting to know our fellow hotel guests whilst sampling delicious pieces of fresh lobster, tuna and some of the biggest, juiciest prawns I’d ever come across. The experience was a real highlight of our stay and I would definitely recommend booking a dinner there. Also worth a visit is their branch of Trader Vic’s restaurant, renowned for their international cuisine and exotic rum based cocktails and Eden, tucked away in the gardens and specialising in grilled seafood.

The hotel is situated along the coast with easy access to the beach. The turquoise water is clear, warm and inviting. On one beautiful day I signed up for snorkelling, a group of us went out and managed to see lots of tropical fish and two extraordinary sea turtles which was very special indeed. As you might imagine, deep sea diving is also very popular here with lots of centres offering day trips and padi courses.

In terms of facilities, the hotel has a fantastic and spacious gym with lovely views which I utilised every morning. Their luxurious spa called Sesel features seven treatment rooms, and a popular Vichy Hydrotherapy room as well as a salon for hair, nails and beauty therapies all in a peaceful setting. I also enjoyed plenty of time reading my books by the very picturesque swimming pool.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the H resort and particularly appreciated the friendly staff, proximity to local restaurants and very green, tropical surroundings. It was the perfect place to relax, unwind and feel immersed in nature.
