Chez Vrony
Restaurant in Zermatt
Swiss Mountain Restaurant
A mountain restaurant with hidden charm for real foodies who like to discover hidden gems.
Set in the wonderful Findeln area of Zermatt, where there are a host of mountain restaurants, Vrony runs this famous restaurant with her husband Max. They are real food purists, keeping their own cattle and making cheese in the basement. All the food served here is organic.
You will find a mix of modern black leather upholstered furniture, hide covered bar stools and copper piping chandeliers. The walls are covered in photographs (some of which are well-know celebs) who have been dining here for years. There is a big English following.
Signature dishes include risotto with venison sausages and ravioli filled with mountain cheeses, pan-fried foi gras with apple, pear and berries. The desserts are wonderfully delicious and all home-made.
Not the cheapest of places, but well worth a visit at least once and the delightful staff will always give you a warm welcome.
They do get very busy at lunchtime though so it is worth calling and making a reservation in advance. When the sun is out people will eat out on the balconies and terraces, which are sun traps. It will not be uncommon to find people sipping wine at 3pm. Be careful when climbing upstairs in ski boots to their small quaint dining area.
