The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe

Hotel in San Diego

4-Star Boutique Inn & Countryside Retreat

You have your go-to getaways.  Your daycations and your feel-like celebrations.  And then there are the special places, and then, those few really, really special places.  Your treasured elite retreats.

The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe sits quietly, exquisitely, amongst them.

It is remote.  Reserved.  Rustic and unquestionably romantic.  Steeped in a secluded 23-acre sprawl in San Diego’s softer, sought after side that is Rancho Santa Fe, The Inn is an evolution of humble hideaway come into its own.  Benches beneath bucolic eucalyptus canopies, stonework, cobbled cabbage rose trails where windy brick laden paths welcome you to wondrous, woodland cottages.

This is where you will stay.

In an enchanted enclave where the division between outdoors and in is deliberately, deliciously blurred.  With a nostalgic nod to its early 1920’s establishment, artistic accents honor the timeless glamour that defined old Hollywood, with evocative claw foot tubs, fireplaces and French doors, plush Frette linens and oversized showers scented with grapefruit, compliments of the Antica Farmacita Pompelini line.   Leather sofa seating beside the fire, pharmacy lamps and an artful blend of terra cotta tiles and bleached wood floors make you rethink country chic in a less kitsch more class kind of way.  A soft, sandy, signatory palate defines the updated cottages, splendidly uniting the rustic and the refined.

Dining at The Inn’s restaurant Morada is a day to night dance with decadence.  With an equestrian tenor, behind a stunner of sliding barn wood doors opening up to a glisten of crystal chandeliers, Morada is but one more soft yet sophisticated stalwart of hospitable excellence done tastefully to the nines.  The produce pops with exceptional freshness as the majority of it was grown on one of the three vegetable and herb gardens on property.  And the local honey glazed Chilean Sea Bass?  Over braised pumpkin and Swiss chard in a rosemary and porcini mushroom broth, it is outstanding.  Save room for the heirloom apple cobbler with a piping cup of Lavazza.  The weekends bring live music and the panoply of so many senses sated at once, is indeed, a very special treat.

Falling water from the fountain, piped in piano, the open-air hermitage experienced sitting poolside is but one more punctuation on The Inn setting the scene serene.  Beneath a canvas canopy on a double sized chaise lounge, the dapple of sunshine lives here year round.  Even in January.  Shamelessly, in January.

And the spa, just six months young, with its dove grey walls, subway tiles, petite vanities and exquisite chrome finishes, masters a unique and bewildering beauty, a soft yet sophisticated style unexpected within spa walls.  Breathtaking in both innovation and style, but the treatments...  That Inner Strength Treatment.  Capitalizing on the calm, the cleansing, and the curative effects of cool and warm compresses, it is the most temperature utilizing, texturally innovative massage I have ever experienced.  It left my hair saturated in Nettle oil, my feet softened, my nerves calmed, and I’m pretty sure there was some form of Pilates happening in there too.  A treatment defining the spa as a destination in its own right.

With its soft pastoral presence, there is an undeniable elegance for solace seekers who desire a countryside escape more chic than shabby.  Following the recent completion of its $12 million renovation, the indigenous grace of the grounds have been majestically preserved, upgraded, and updated with lavishes bringing forth understated polish and gentility.  It is a most sweet retreat, an elevation of defining Inn Style, situated between the mountains and the sea.  Rancho Santa Fe has always been a quiet starlight.  Here, at its namesake inn, the quiet, shines brilliantly.
