One UN New York

Hotel in New York

5-Star Hotel

When you’re staying in New York, you want to feel like you’re staying in New York. And the view is everything. After all, what’s the point of paying those sky-high Manhattan prices if you’re not going to be, well, sky high?

Book a room at the One UN hotel and you’ll find yourself right up there with the birds and the washing lines. You’ll be surrounded by skyscrapers – and you simply can’t miss that view. On entering my room in the newly renovated West Tower it quite literally took over. Mesmerized, I was drawn to the floor-to-ceiling “window” (more a glass wall) and found myself some minutes later still standing there gawping at the Chrysler building. It has always been my favourite, its clean art deco lines so much more appealing to me than the Empire State’s towering needle, so it was fitting that it dominated my view.

Two comfy chaise longues are arranged underneath the window and so you could spend your whole time, both awake and asleep, in front of that view. But there is much more to the room, of course. There’s a vast American-sized bed for a start. And state-of-the-art technology at every turn: touchscreen controls for the air con and lighting, a Nespresso machine and an iPod docking station.

You could work here quite comfortably, setting up at the desk in the room itself or wandering along to the Skyline Club on the 30th floor for laptop time with a slightly different view. Here you’ll also find complimentary snacks and delicious hors d’oeuvres in the evenings. There is also breakfast served daily.

The hotel’s location on UN Plaza makes it the perfect place if you’re in town on business, whether that be at the UN building opposite or not. Taxis are easy to come by here and Grand Central station is just a few blocks away.

Back at the hotel, don’t miss the only indoor tennis court of any New York hotel and a swim on the 27th floor, overlooking the East River. That is, if you can tear yourself away from that window.
