Gramercy Park Hotel

Hotel in New York

5-Star Luxury Boutique Hotel

A very individual luxury boutique hotel located in a wonderful part of Manhattan full of colour and character.

Each of the 185 rooms including 45 luxurious suites has a unique style making Gramercy Park an experience to sample.  The colours are inspired by Raphael and together with its distinctive original art collection which is rotated on a 3 monthly basis, make this hotel a joy to visit.  The hotel even has its own key to Gramercy Park across the street.

The room types range from an entry level Queen Superior at 275 sq ft (25 sq m) up to a Park View Loft at 515 sq ft (48 sq m).  The Suites start from an Avenue One Bedroom Suite at 475 sq ft (44 sq m) and go up to between 750-1,200 sq ft (70-11 sq m) for their Speciality Suites.

I had a peek at a variety of rooms including a Park View Loft (room 605) with its custom made furniture, fabulous bar and beautiful leather desk.  I loved the Japanese bath in the wonderful bathroom with its separate shower and wooden floors.  Although all the furniture is custom made you still get all the modern amenities such as a quality HD TV and iPod dock.  There is plenty of closet and draw space which I like and you get all the essentials such as bathrobes, iron, ironing board, personal safe and decent hairdryer.  I thought the door draft stop was rather novel.

The One Bedroom Suite (room 302) I saw was decorated in jade and can be turned into a 2 bedroom suite.  I also liked the Park View One Bedroom Suite (room 604).

I found the rooms to be quiet and restful with their wooden blinds and black out shades.  They use 3 colour pallets throughout the rooms: jade, rose and blue, giving them all a unique feel.  Although some of the bathrooms are by no means cavernous, the double French doors opening up into the bedroom give a feeling of being larger than they really are.

The hotel caters well for families with connecting rooms making up to 3 rooms as required.  Kids even get their own bathrobes, slippers and toys.

There are some fabulous spaces in The Gramercy Park such as the Rose and Jade Bars with their colourful walls.  The Rose Bar turns into nightclub after 10pm where even hotel guests need reservations.  You should also check out the Pool Table in the bar!  The Gramercy Terrace on the top floor is a wonderful open space with its retractable roof and is perfect for that summer evening cocktail.  You should also check out the Drawing Room with its 10,000 light bulbs and extraordinary pieces of art from Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol.

The hotel also has the excellent Maialino Restaurant, which is open all day.

There is a decent sized Fitness Room with 2 sides of windows letting in lots of natural light, equipped with LifeFitness cardio machines as well as free weights.  They also have 2 Treatment Rooms and use of a Spa 2 blocks away.

Additional Ambience Information

Heaps of character and unique with lots of reclaimed wood from upstate New York, an interesting use of colours and textures giving an eclectic feel. I love the Venetian chandeliers, Italian fireplace, antique tiles from Morocco, carpets from France and Parisian drapes. Even the Concierge desk is made from solid bronze.
