The Standard New York

Hotel in New York

Boutique Hotel

An unusual yet imposing modern downtown building straddling The Highline.

The Standard opened at the end of 2008 and has 337 rooms spread over 18 floors.

The entry level Standard Queen and King bedded rooms start at 250 sq ft.  A Superior Queen is slightly smaller at 230 sq ft but has views of the Hudson and Highline. The Deluxe King’s are larger at 270 sq ft and have views of the West Village, Meatpacking District and The Hudson.  At 340 sq ft, the Empire Corner King is very masculine with a colour palette of orange, red and black and offers more room and a much larger bathroom with separate walk-in shower and freestanding bathtub that sits on a gloss white bricked floor.  However the Liberty Corner King is slightly smaller at 300 sq ft and does not have a bath tub but rather a wet room and shower.  As you’d expect it has views of Liberty Island, a black theme and L-shaped sofa.  All the essentials are included in each room such as a personal safe and bathrobes.

All the rooms have floor to ceiling windows letting in lots of natural light and giving you amazing views of lower Manhattan.  They come equipped with plasma TVs, iHome dock alarm radios, free local calls and complimentary Wi-Fi.  The bathrooms are interesting, trendy and different and have what they call ‘peek-a-boo showers, in other words they are open.  The beds have 300 thread count crisp white linens.

There are three varieties of suites starting with the Hudson Suite at 400 sq ft offering 180 degree views of the river and Manhattan plus you get an HDTV.  It occupies the whole end of the hotel and has a large open bathroom.  At 575 sq ft, the Liberty Suite has unusual wooden panelled floors and walls and carpeted platform seating area as well as HDTV, Blue-Ray Disc Player, special sound system and iPod dock and unusual round platform bed, plenty of closet space and a large walk-in shower.  This is all topped off with Kiss My Face organic based bathroom amenities.  The large Empire Suite (875 sq ft) has custom white lacquered walls and ceilings offset with black thick carpets.  It is similarly equipped to the Liberty Suite but also has a deep soaking tub which is positioned so you gaze directly at The Empire State Building.

The Standard has a well-equipped gym with Technogym cardio machines as well as free weights and great views thanks to its large windows.

Whilst the 18th floor houses the very trendy Rooftop Bar.  The popular Biergarten is the hotel’s outside bar and restaurant and is literally right under the High Line.  It serves traditional German cuisine and beer.  The Standard Grill is a great American style grill with an open kitchen and more traditional feel and comfortable red leather banquettes and serves breakfast from 7am and dinner up until 4am with a late night menu.
