I got an immediate sense of tranquillity as I walked through the door into the elegant lobby.

The Four Seasons New York has 368 rooms spread over 52 floors, so the top floors enjoy some wonderful panoramic views of the New York skyline.  All the rooms are similarly decorated and furnished.  The décor is soothing, neutral and contemporary with light wood (English sycamore) panelling off-setting the rich warm golden colours and beige carpets.  The furniture is hand crafted and the oval desks and Wi-Fi offer space in which to work.

Entry level City View Rooms start at 500 sq ft (46 sq m).  The Deluxe Rooms are 600 sq ft (56 sq m) whilst the Tower Rooms are 500 sq ft (46 sq m) and have either a panoramic city or park view.  All rooms are well equipped with a flat screen TV, DVD and CD player.  You get a serious walk-in closet with plenty of hanging and draw space.  I heard very little street noise thanks to the good double glazing and the beds are encased with wonderfully soft Frette Sheets.  I love the bathrooms with their Florentine marble tiling and most rooms have a separate walk-in shower and deep bath tub (that fills in a record-breaking 60 seconds!)  You also get a TV in the bathroom along with Bvlgari amenities.  There is plenty of counter space so you can spread your toiletries out.

The Executive Rooms at 800 sq ft (74 sq m) come with a city or park view and have a separate living room; some even have their own terraces.  I like the fact that you have a door to the bedroom so you can close yourself off from the main hallway.

The Suites start at 1,000 sq ft (93 sq m) and go up to 4,300 sq ft (400 sq m) for the quite amazing Penthouse.  The Deluxe Suite comes in a one or two bedroom layout and has a full size sofa that you can sleep on, as well as two bathrooms and a dressing room.  The bedroom walls are made of soft fabric.  The Royal Suite has 3 bedrooms and a very contemporary look with darker (black) floors and a very different décor.  The living room is very modern and there is a good sized terrace and large windows which make the suite very bright and airy.  The 2 Presidential Suites have amazing bathrooms with rock crystal taps and copious amounts of marble everywhere.  The amenities are Acqua di Parma.  The living room has a real gas fireplace and a V-Shaped glass enclosed terrace with spectacular views of New York as you are on the 51st floor.

The Four Seasons has a number of interconnecting rooms for families and they do offer a Family Package whereby you get the second room half price.  They will customize a kids program for you and do have kids’ amenities.

There is a very nice tranquil Spa offering a range of treatments in their 9 treatment rooms as well as a 24 hour large gym with Cybex and Precor equipment.

I had a most enjoyable and relaxed early evening cocktail in The Bar, a popular destination bar after work.  I have not eaten in L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, but it has a good reputation.
