Morgans New York

Hotel in New York

Boutique Hotel

It is said that Morgans is the original Boutique Hotel and this is where the story began.

With its 114 rooms, Morgans became the anti-hotel if you like, going against tradition and setting the trend for so many of the hotels that followed and like to be different.

Today you walk through the unassuming entrance into the small lobby, designed to give guests a natural, exclusive and more interactive experience, hoping to make it your home away from home.  You can even change the mood by altering the colour of the ceiling!  You will also notice with all Morgans hotels that there are two sets of doors. The idea being that you walk through one set from your world into a decompression chamber and then through the second set, into their world, relaxed and ready to enjoy your stay.

Entry level Standard rooms start at around 220 sq ft and have a Courtyard view.  There are some Superior rooms with 2 Twin beds and Queen bedded rooms both at 244 sq ft.  The Loft is a fun and larger space at 465 sq ft and has a king sized bed.  All rooms have Down Duvets and pillows and Egyptian cotton linens.  The Suites start at 360 sq ft for the one bedroom and go up to 1,500 sq ft for the luxurious Penthouse with its private balconies.  In between there is the Deluxe, Balcony, Window and Two Bedroom Suites.  The rooms have pretty decent sized double closets, a personal safe, bathrobes, international power adapters (a nice touch) and iron and ironing board.  There is roughly a 50/50 split with some rooms having showers versus bath tubs.  All rooms tend to have a Queen size bed with the exception of suites, which come with king beds.  The rooms are well equipped with iPod docks, flat screen HD TV, Wi-Fi (at $10 a day) and smallish work desk come dressing table.  The bathrooms whilst not large are quite striking with their black and white tiling, stainless steel sinks and MALIN+GOETZ amenities.

I liked the original photographs adorning the walls in each room. The colour palette for the rooms is fairly neutral with a strong use of grey and black.  Whilst they do have 3 sets of adjoining rooms, families may prefer to take a larger suite.

Morgans has a well-equipped Fitness Room, which is a decent size with Precor cardio machines, Universal Cybex machine and some free weights.

I like the fact that breakfast is included in the price of your stay and Wi-Fi is complimentary in the cosy Living Room, which I found to be tranquil and relaxed.  There are also 2 Macs in the small Business Centre.
