The best way to get fit, get your bearings, and gain local knowledge… a must do experience.

City Running Tours provide guided individual and group running tours in major cities in the US, including New York where I ran twice, 50-minutes with a group around SoHo and 40-minutes on a personal tour of Tribeca.

With so much to see and often with so little time in a city, this is an efficient and massively enjoyable way for runners of any level to experience and learn some fast facts about the city.

For example, amongst other things, I now know NY names it's neighborhoods after it's borders, "SOuth of HOuston street", and where I live the "TRIangle BElow CAnal Street".

What’s so good about City Running Tours?  The City Running guides were friendly, energetic, passionate locals with detailed NY knowledge. Runs can be as casual or speedy as you like. You can chose a route though well known NYC locations or through lesser known neighborhoods and highlights. Either way, whether a regular NY visitor or first timer I would say you are guaranteed to gain some new NY knowledge.

The personal tours are tailored to your every need:

  • You are collected at a location and time to suit you - fitting in with your daily / desired routine.
  • You run & tour for your preferred duration / distance - 3 or 4 miles being the most popular, going up to 20+ miles for those ‘in training'.
  • At any speed - you specify a casual jog or fast pace.
  • You run bag free - your guide carries a pack for you with water plus camera if you want some shots, also holding anything (keys etc) you may have.

I was collected from my apartment, for a 40 minute casual early morning jog. An energizing, entertaining start to the day, I learnt a lot, chatted a lot, and time flew by.

The Group Tours are at a casual pace and a fun way to see sites and meet new people, groups are generally locals and visitors. Several guides on each run means whatever your speed there is a City Running Guide to run / jog / quick walk with you.

My group of 7 started and ended in SoHo, via Tribeca, Hudson Square, West Side Highway and Hudson River, and the Village.

Other Group Tours I intend to try include (in order of preference), a run / tour ending with a beer or brunch or more sports activity (yoga).

How much does it cost?

Personal Tours: $60 per person for the first 6 miles/$6 per person for each additional mile.  Discounts for groups of 4 or more.

Group Tours: from $25 per person.

Tipping, is in line with US etiquette, i.e. encouraged if you think your guide did a good job.

How to book: Visit the City Running Tour website or call them on: +1 877 415 0048

Also important to note: on many of the Group runs you can leave your bag/belongings with a CRT person, but check with them when booking. This varies by run.
