The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park

Hotel in New York

5 Star Luxury Hotel

A luxury hotel in the heart of Manhattan with all the charm and feeling of a private residence.

This elegant 259 room hotel with its 47 suites is spread over 22 floors, offering some wonderful views of Central Park.

Rooms start at a large 425 sq ft (38 sq m) with Deluxe and Superior Rooms overlooking the inner courtyard.  The City View Rooms overlook Avenue of The Americas and I was amazed just how quiet the rooms are thanks to the excellent double glazed windows.  If you’d prefer a view of Central Park then the larger Deluxe Parkview and Parkview rooms are 450 sq ft (42 sq m) and offer beautiful panoramas.  The room choice will depend on the floor level you prefer.  Personally I like a higher room for the views and quiet.  The rooms and suites that overlook the Park have a telescope and bird books, bird DVDs are also available to help you identify the birds in the Park.

The rooms are traditionally furnished and use warm bright colours and feel very cosy and homely.  The bathrooms in all the rooms are large and luxurious adorned in grey marble, a Ritz-Carlton trait.  You get a separate walk-in shower and bath tub and Etro bathroom amenities as well as bath salts and cotton wool and plush bathrobes.  There is plenty of counter space and a quality hair dryer. The beds are incredibly comfortable and are covered in 400-thread count fine linen.  The DVD player and 27-inch Sony flat screen TV will keep you or the kids occupied and Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel ($14.95 for 24 hours).  Suites also have a Bose sound system and TV in the bathroom as well as large walk-in wardrobes.  I liked the little touch of the traditional carriage clock!

Families with children are well catered for.  At noon each day you meet at the Concierge Desk and children walk across to the Park with the chef and feed the horses.  The City View Suites (860 sq ft) are ideal for families as they have 2 bathrooms and a pull out sofa bed.  The kids can amuse themselves with the Bang & Olufsen sound system and huge flat screen TV.  The hotel also has 7 inter-connecting rooms.

The Suites range from 790 sq ft up to 1,900 sq ft for the Central Park Suite, ideal for longer stays.  I really like the warm and calm colours giving a real feeling of being your home away from home.

The Club Lounge is always a nice little oasis and place to enjoy complimentary breakfast, food and drinks.  All suites have access to the lounge or you can pay an additional fee.

La Prairie at The Ritz-Carlton Spa will pamper you after a long day walking around the city with a wide choice of treatments to tempt you in the 6 treatment rooms.  There is also a large gym with Life Fitness and Precor cardio equipment as well a range of free weights and a steam room.

BLT Market is the hotel’s very down-to-earth restaurant with a Southern/Californian feel focussing on fresh seasonal dishes (fish and meat) that rotate with the seasons and what’s available in the market at any given time.  Continental Breakfast is served here each morning ($29).  The traditional and cosy Star Lounge is a place to unwind at the end of a busy day for a cocktail or two before dinner.
