New York Running Club
Run Club is organised by Niketown in New York and is a great way to enjoy running in Central Park and meet people if you don't know the city.
They meet 3 times a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30pm and Saturdays at 9:00am. You meet at the Niketown store on 57th and 5th Avenue and they offer weekly group runs or walks for all levels, post-run refreshments and socializing, running clinics by experts as well as product trials and demos. There is no charge for the group runs.
Central Park running trails include:
Full Loop: 6 miles/9.7 km - this is the longest loop and the only one that goes around the entire Park. It follows the main road from just above Central Park South to just below Cathedral Parkway.
Middle 4 Loop: 4 miles/6.4 km - this follows the same loop, but crosses the Park at the 102nd St at the 72nd St Transverse, excluding Harlem Hill and Central Park South sections of the Park.
Upper 5 Loop: 4.9 miles/7.9 km - follows the same course as the 6 mile loop but crosses the Park at the 72nd Street Transverse and includes the Harlem Hill section at the North End.
Lower 5 Loop: 5.1 miles/8.2 km - follows the same course as the 6 mile loop (including Central Park South section at the south end of the Park), but crosses the Park at the 72nd St Transverse.
Res Loop: 1.6 miles/2.6 km - This is the Reservoir loop (marked at 110 yard intervals).
Bridle Extended: 2.5 miles/4km – Northern dirt extension of the Lower Res Loop, which spans from W 90th St across the parallel to the 102nd St Transverse, ending at E 96th St where it reconnects to the Lower Res Loop.
Lower Loop: 1.7 miles/2.7 km – Comprised of the lower (southern) loop, which follows Central Park at the 72nd St Transverse.
Harlem Hills: 1.4 miles/2.3 km – Comprises of the upper (northern) loop, which goes up the Harlem Hill and crosses the Park at the 102nd St Transverse.
Lower Res Loop: 1.7 miles/2.7 km – Dirt running path below the Res Loop.
Bridle Spur: 1.4 miles/2.3 km – Southern dirt extension of the Lower Res Loop, which begins at 59th St and 6th Ave, runs north beneath walking bridges to W 86th St where it connects to the Lower Res Loop.
