Le Caprice’s well established 62 year history in London has finally rubbed off in New York, opening its first restaurant across the Pond in October 2009.

This is certainly the place to come for a business breakfast in New York City.

I love Martin Brudniski’s black and white art deco design and David Bailey’s photographs on the walls. The bar is crisp and slick and I particularly like the cosy and very comfortable half moon black leather sofas that are almost like having your own private booth.

I am told that trying to delight and excite guests with the reinvention of classics is the chef’s goal.

I had two visits recently whilst I was in New York. One for a business breakfast and the second for a simple relaxing mid-morning coffee with a friend. I will be back to try lunch or dinner on my next trip as I know that the restaurant changes its menus with the seasons to take advantage of seasonal ingredients. I believe that December will see Beetroots and Celeriac with Christmas Pudding Soufflé and Mince Pies amongst other things being featured on the menu.

You are spoilt for choice with the simple yet tempting breakfast menu. I have to confess I went for the Eggs Benedict Florentine (I normally just have cereal and a bagel). The eggs were perfect with that wonderful runny yoke. I was however nearly tempted by the smoked salmon and scrambled egg (one of my favourites). The assorted bakery basket offers an array of Brioches, croissants, blueberry, lemon poppy seed, corn or bran muffin and assorted Danish.

Continental breakfast costs $16, English $19, American $22 or the healthy option of an Energy breakfast for $16 or “Healthy” for $18.

I’m told the bar is popular at cocktail hour so I took a peak at the cocktail and wine list. Classic cocktails start at $17 and the list is extensive. Single Malt Whiskeys start at $16 whilst a Vodka or Gin will set you back around $12. New for the winter are a bevy of martinis and between 5-7pm you can stick to just one cocktail or sample any three for $18.

They have around 20 wines available by the glass starting at a reasonable $9. I also like the fact that they serve carafes. Bottles start at $32. I have to say, the wine list is extensive and features wines not only from France, but also a good selection from the New World as well as Italy and Germany.

Their pre and post Theatre Prix Fixe menu offers 3 courses for just $29 and it is also available at lunchtime.
