Canyon Ranch Grill
Restaurant in Miami
Health-Conscious Modern American Gourmet Restaurant
The Canyon Ranch Grill in Miami Beach is actually the perfect restaurant for health conscious locals and visitors alike.
With its open kitchen and gluten free menu the restaurant’s philosophy is to offer you nourishing cuisine filled with bright, focused and vibrant flavours. The dishes are visually appealing and the enticing aromas excite the senses and most importantly the dishes are full of nutritional value. The emphasis is also on organic locally produced produce, much of it coming from sustainable farming and fishing methods, which will please many people.
I have to say as much as I dine out a lot for my job, I do often enjoy the more down-to-earth healthy meals, as they tend to be less pretentious and actually more relaxing. As I was staying at the hotel I had breakfast on two mornings and dinner on one evening.
I love breakfast here and opt for a window seat, gazing out at the beach and ocean beyond with its solitary surfer. My favourite is their homemade Granola with Greek-style yoghurt and berries – delicious and the perfect set me up for the morning ahead. They also have an assortment of oatmeal, muesli and even smoked salmon and goat cheese flatbread. They have a nice selection of egg dishes and I have a weakness for Eggs Benedict, so that was my second morning’s choice and I was not disappointed. If pancakes and French Toast is your thing, they are on the menu too. All the dishes have the calorie count next to them, so you know precisely what your intake is.
As I was having dinner on my own I sat at the chef's table overlooking the kitchen watching the chefs hard at work.
I like the fact that there is a different Amuse Bouche every day accompanied with their 30 calorie bread sticks. You then have a choice of their special ‘Taste for Two’ menu which offered things like mango glazed shrimps, steamed mussels and ranch shellfish cake. And if sharing is your thing, their Hearth Fired Roman flatbreads are worth trying with artichoke and heirloom tomatoes. Their ‘Simple Eats’ include the fish of the day, which is what I chose and was Mahi Mahi accompanied with some healthy steamed spinach. I started with a very tasty Avocado Tartar. You also have the option to ‘create your own meal’ and choose one protein dish with two side dishes. They also offer what they call their ‘Balanced Selections’, which is a starter, salad, main (organic salmon the day I had dinner) and a fruit sorbet to finish. On the other hand the ‘Nourish Menu’ gives you a starter and choice of three mains, dessert and glass of wine. Many of you may well though just opt for the good old fashioned à la carte menu with things like Yellow tail snapper, organic salmon, grass fed Tenderloin or the Australian lamb chops.
Even if you do have room for a dessert, they are all somewhat healthy. The Canyon Ranch chocolate is made with no sugar for example.
Whatever you do decide to choose you can be sure it will be expertly and healthily prepared and so you will not feel too guilty the next day and feel you have to hit the gym straightaway!
Look out for the special Prefix three-course lunch and four-course dinner offers from $19 and $33 during Miami Spice from August 1st through September 30th.
