Hyatt Regency Mainz

Hotel in Mainz

5-Star Hotel

The Hyatt Regency Mainz is one of my favourite hotels in Germany.  It mixes historic and modern architecture as it has been built into what is left of the 19th century Fort Malakoff, Mainz’s historic fortress.

The hotel is conveniently located close to the centre of the city, the old town and railway station, with wine taverns and shops just a short walk away.  Mainz’s Congress Centre is five minutes away by foot as is the city’s St Stephen’s Cathedral.

You are made to feel incredibly welcome by the professional and hospitable staff from the moment you step into the tall glass ceiling lobby to the moment you check out.

I was booked into a river view room that overlooked the Rhine and fortunately my visit was on one of the last few warm and sunny days in the autumn, so I could take full advantage of the view and outside terraces, enjoying a late afternoon beer on the Rheinochter Terrace right by the river.

The immaculate rooms, which are all decorated in the same style and décor, offer plenty of space in which to unpack properly with a wide hallway that houses a decent sized double closet.  I found my room bright and modern in design with light wood coloured furnishings and an oversized work desk and decent economic style leather desk chair as well as a rather comfortable black leather armchair in which to relax.  The king sized bed was wonderfully comfortable, wrapped in a crisp white linen duvet.  Some of you will be happy to know that you can also open the windows and the rooms are generally very quiet.

The generously sized bathrooms are cleverly designed to optimise space and are essentially a wet room with green slate floors, oatmeal coloured wall tiles and a large rain forest shower.  There is also a deep soaking bath tub in which to enjoy the Pharmacopia bathroom amenities.  You of course get fluffy bathrobes, a personal safe, high speed and Wi-Fi Internet access and the rooms had just been fitted with brand new large 42” HD televisions.

If you stay in a Club Room, you will have access to the Regency Club Lounge on the 6th floor overlooking the river where you can help yourself to light refreshments and coffee throughout the day, evening cocktails and a Continental breakfast in the morning.

Bars & Restaurants
The hotel has something to suit every occasion with the M-Lounge in between the reception desk and restaurant, perfect for a business meeting and coffee or a relaxing cocktail before dinner. Then there is the Malakoff Bar which is located inside part of the historic 19th century Fort Malakoff and leads into the Hofgarten (courtyard), ideal for those warm summer evenings.  The excellent Bellpepper Restaurant, rated as one of Mainz’s finest restaurants has a very high glass ceiling and a warm and inviting ambience as the sun goes down.  They also serve a superb large buffet style breakfast each morning to set you up for the day.  And on those nicer days you may want to have breakfast, lunch or dinner on the Rheinochter Terrace overlooking the River Rhine.  And if you want to get even closer to the water’s edge, the Beegarten Kanzel is perfectly located across from the hotel right on the banks of the Rhine.

For that special event you can dine down in the wine cellar or upstairs in the special dining area in the old fortress area of the hotel.

Club Olympus Spa & Fitness
For those of you who like to keep fit when travelling, Club Olympus offers just about everything you will need, from a state of the art fitness room with LifeFitness equipment, indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam room and solarium.  They also have treatment rooms for massages and cosmetic treatments.

If you are a keen on your wine, The Hyatt Regency is located right in the middle of one of the wine capitals of the world and birthplace of the Riesling.  So not only can you enjoy some of the wines in the hotel, but you can also arrange a wine tour of a local vineyard.
