A new addition to the Corbin & King’s eponymous flurry with glitter and glamour introduces Brasserie Zédel located just off Piccadilly Circus.

Greeted by a smart doorman, Brasserie Zédel is nostalgic with characteristics typical to the excellence of their trademark restaurants, injecting ‘pizazz’ appeal as flying society swarms the establishment from pre and post theatre enticed by a cool cocktail or meal.  The Brasserie demonstrates its true style demonstrating all day dining, seven days a week, offering great value with simple good food.  Nothing too fussy, simplicity is key with all ingredients fresh, tasty and not too heavy.  Parisian elegance pervades with a replica of what one would find in Paris but probably half the price.

Sister to The Wolseley, Brasserie Zédel is simpler, however comparable to the superior interiors of stunning décor with historic Art Deco surroundings.  Neither intimidating or too posh, it’s a transportation of Paris to London, attractive to every echelon of society.

Walking into this golden era of the ‘Roaring Twenties’ emphasizing the era of social, artistic and cultural dynamism appears evident with surroundings to match the mood. From noon until midnight dining is served at Brasserie Zédel.  A spot of cabaret and jazz with live entertainment at The Crazy Coqs (Monday to Sunday evenings), or enjoy a cocktail at the Bar Américain (Monday to Friday from 4.30pm).  Start the day at street level with coffee and a croissant at the ZL Café (Monday to Sunday until midnight) and return for the evening’s ragtime piano jazz.

Enter marble pillars in a grand salon of subtle lighting and comfortable seating.  The dining area is sparse with a great atmosphere for groups or a romantic setting for two. A mish mash of London sophistication to casual chic.  Not presumptuous but relaxed.   Nothing fussy is the attitude.

Entrées consist of deliciously prepared French dressed salads with a hint of mustard garnished with velvety oil at a very reasonable price of £5.75 for a ‘Salade frisée aux lardons’ to a remarkable £8.75 for the ‘Parfait de fois gras’. Buttery creamy and indulgent, especially gourmet effective with a glass of sauternes!  Poissons, Viandes or Choucroutes follow and particularly good is their ‘Plats du Jour’, serving something different with a twist such is their ‘Curry d’agneau à l’indienne’ at £12.75.  My favourite dish is the ‘Carrelet meuniere, pommes vapeur’ at £14.95, a lightly pan fried whole plaice with a butter and lemon sauce and new potatoes.  Delicate white flesh complimented by a zesty flavoured dressing - only the French know how to prepare sauces to such supremacy enhancing taste to a max! A perfect accompaniment is their house white, ‘Sauvignon Pays d’Oc 2011 at £5.70 for a large glass of dry crisp white wine, compatible with fish.  The variety of good wine and champagnes are excellent value with popular sparkling wines setting the trend at present with a very decent glass of Crémant de Loire NV at £5.30.  For the more traditional coup de champagne, there’s a good Pommery Brut Royal NV at £8.20.

Whether satisfying the palette with a sweet or savoury treat to finish is in order, don’t miss out on the Pâtisseries et Desserts.  Profiteroles au chocolate chaud £4.50 is a temptation of gloriously warm choux pastry with a pouring of glistening hot chocolate.

Open Monday to Saturday from 8am to Midnight and Sundays from 11:30am to Midnight.
