Indian Restaurant

Excellent Indian cuisine in a lively atmosphere, ideal for a business lunch with great value Express menus.

The restaurant was absolutely full by time we tucked into our main course.  This is clearly a popular lunch spot thanks in part to its location close to so many offices.

We found the service to be attentive and the food not only well presented but also extremely tasty.  We opted for the very appealing Express Lunch with three choices for each course.  A nice touch was the very tasty amuse-bouche they brought us after we had placed our order.

The Menu
For our starters we opted for the Punjabi spiced chickpeas with ginger and chilli, which was very good but I have to say that the roasted hake with dill and carom seeds was truly excellent and got my vote!  For our mains I fancied continuing with fish and had the healthy baked mackerel with kasundi, masala and sautéed potatoes whilst my lunch partner had the perfectly cooked slow braised guinea fowl leg vindaloo and lentil kedgeree, which was no very spicy at all.  We then shared a very yummy almond and apple cake with rum and raisin ice cream.

The Wine List
They have a good wine selection available by the glass, half or full bottle at very reasonable prices.  I noted wines from France, Italy, Chile, New Zealand and we enjoyed a fruity and light 2010 Château la Coste Rosé from Provence.

Would I go back?
Most definitely yes! If you like good quality Indian food in a lively trendy atmosphere, then this is the place.  I would however like to try their new restaurant in Soho and The Cinnamon Club in Westminster.

Cooking Masterclass
They also offer an excellent Masterclass if you fancy cooking with the experts, which one of writers Maria Kuehn did recently.

Open Monday to Friday from 7am to 10am for Breakfast; 12noon to 2:45pm for Lunch; Dinner from 6pm to 10:45pm Monday to Saturday.  Closed on Bank Holidays.

If you just want to drop in for a drink, Anise is their contemporary and stylish bar off to the left of the main restaurant where you can enjoy a cocktail and canapés.  They also have comfortable seating outside, with a roof!

Anise is open Monday to Friday from 11am to midnight (6pm to midnight on Saturday).
