Corinthia Hotel London
Hotel in London
5-Star Hotel
With its Parisian external architecture and Victorian interior, this new elegant luxury hotel has so much to offer its guests.
Originally built as the 600 room Hôtel Métropole, the building then became the Ministry of Defence offices in 1936 before being restored to its current new home of The Corinthia Hotel. Many of the buildings original features have been restored to give it both a modern yet traditional feel and you will notice a lot of art around the hotel, such as the eye-catching bronze elevator doors with their leaf rubbings.
Today the Corinthia has just 294 rooms of which 42 are suites offering wonderful views of London. The seventh and top floor houses the Signature Suites. There are essentially three different colour palettes through the rooms: green, blue and purple.
The entry level Superior Queen room is far from basic, starting at 323 sq ft (30 sq m) and extremely well equipped with pretty much the same plush fittings and amenities as the larger categories of room. The Superior King is a little larger at 344 sq ft (32 sq m) whilst the Deluxe Room is 420 sq ft (39 sq m) and the Executive Room being a large 484 sq ft (45 sq m) and offers a choice of either a king or two double beds. As I walked into a little entrance hall I noticed the walk in closet area with plenty of hanging space as well as shelves and draws. The bathrooms are heavenly with truffle coloured heated marble floors and white marble wall tiles and come with both a deep soaking tub (with flat screen TV at the far end) as well as large walk-in shower and his and hers sinks and separate toilet and bidet. The bathroom amenities are ESPA. Every room has a Nespresso machine, Loewe Flat screen TV.
The Deluxe Junior Suite starts at 700 sq ft (65 sq m) and goes up to 861 sq ft (80 sq m) for the beautiful River Suite with its views of the Thames, blue décor and wooden parquet floors. You can add up to two additional rooms which might suit families well. The location of the suite is at the far curved end of the building, giving it lots of windows and natural light. The Trafalgar Suite at 905 sq ft (83 sq m) has a mix of beige and purple colours and looks onto Whitehall Place and up toward The Strand. Again you can connect a standard room as necessary. I liked the Ottoman at the end of the king size bed and rug that covers the parquet floor. The other thing that I particularly like is the large airy corridors and very solid room doors. The double glazing in all the rooms is good.
The Corinthia has 6 Signature Suites which I have yet to see as they were not all fully open when I was there.
You are spoilt for choice when it comes to eating and drinking with all-day dining in The Northall, where I enjoyed a seasonal British lunch. I was also fortunate to have experienced the private dining room in the striking Massimo Restaurant and Oyster Bar. The Jazz themed Bassoon bar with its integrated seven-metre long Grand Piano and bar top is a true destination bar.
I was most impressed with my treatment at the elegant and plush Health Spa ESPA Life at Corinthia, with its 17 Treatment Pods, four floors, ozone silver steel pool and the well-equipped large gym area.
