What a brilliant concept rotating the cuisine on a regular basis in the autumn to keep the menu fresh and exciting.

It was Taste of Israel Week when I had lunch here recently, and Chef Louise Noiman had come over from the InterContinental in Tel Aviv to arrange it all.  This means that the entire menu is Israeli based and even the walls have Israeli art to add to the atmosphere.  The following week it was ‘Columbia Gourmet’ with their art adorning the walls and ceiling and Columbian music.

The menu is very straightforward.  The Market Table set up in the middle of the restaurant offers a wonderful choice of fresh fish, vegetables, salads, Mediterranean fine cheeses and olives (see photos below).  You can help yourself to as much or little as you like.  In addition you can choose their Weekly Specials off the menu.  We had the Grilled Chicken thighs with Mujadara rice and Herb crusted Sea Bass with layered potatoes and rice.  There was also a Falafil Tahini dip and tomato salsa.

The mouth-watering array of desserts could be found on the Market Table as well, which are all included.

They have a nice wine list with of course some Israeli wines as well as a few from France, Argentina and New Zealand and a Rosé tucked in there from Kent in England.  We both had an excellent 2009 Israeli Sauvignon Blanc.

The next Autumn Gourmet Festival is ‘Flavours of Peru' running from 17th October to 23rd October, featuring Peruvian Chef Virgilio Martinez.

Although I have not tried it myself, a friend of mine loves the Brunches here, which offer more food than you can eat at amazingly good value and are very popular with locals.  Saturday Brunch is a thoroughly traditional affair at £49 per person, whilst Sunday offers additional Sunday roasts and is £55 per person (under 17s eat for just £25 on Saturday, £24 on Sunday.  Included in the price are unlimited Crémant, Bellinis soft drinks, coffee and teas.

I found the service to be attentive and professional and the food was excellent!  I want to try the Brunch next...

Cookbook Cafe is open for breakfast lunch and dinner.  Brunch is from 12:30 to 3:30pm at the weekend.
