Fabulous quality at an affordable price!

I love this restaurant for its wonderful atmosphere, excellent service and delightful staff.  I have never been disappointed.  The ambience is very calming and you feel you can simply relax and enjoy the atmosphere, crisp white table cloths and comfortable chairs.

The full glass front windows can be fully opened in the summer and there is a small terrace at the front.

The menu changes daily and offers a good selection of dishes at great value.  A two course lunch is £19.50 and three course £23.50.

I had the Foi Gras and chicken liver parfait with delicious toasted brioche (they even offered me a second piece of brioche, which I appreciated).  It was mouth watering!  My lunch partner had the beautifully presented Marinated beetroot, goat’s cheese, candied walnuts and Granny Smith apple.  We then chose the Roast loin of cod with vegetables and mashed potato and Beef Bourguignon with pomme purée.  The beef was so tender it almost melted in your mouth and as for the sauce, well it was incredibly special!

We were so full we did not have a dessert, but I would have been tempted by the Crème brûlée, otherwise they also had pear and blackberry crumble with buttermilk sorbet and sticky date pudding with vanilla ice cream to name a few out of the choice of six plus the most amazing cheese from the board, which we have had before.

Dinner is a little more expensive with their Prix fixe costing £39.50 for three courses or £49.50 for four, including the cheese.  They do however offer an early evening menu (before 7:30pm) at £17.50 for two courses and £19.50 for three courses.  You have two choices of starter, main and dessert compared with the six choices of starter, main and dessert at lunchtime.

They have a very comprehensive wine list indexed at the front from France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia and other new world wines.  Bottles start from £17.50.  A good selection is also available by the glass with 16 to choose from starting at £3.50.  We had a Gavi (Piemonte) and Rioja Vina Marro, each at £6.  There is also a large champagne list.  We found the Sommelier to be very knowledgeable and helpful.

A two course lunch for the two of us with a glass of wine each and coffee came to £61 including tip.
