The Lobby Bar at One Aldwych
Bar in London
Cocktail Bar
A stylish and cool bar in which to enjoy a cocktail or two after a day at the office or battling through the shops in the West End.
Following the success of the Will & Kate Champagne Cocktail, The Lobby Bar has decided to continue to offer it to guests. It consists of Champagne, Bombay Sapphire gin and fresh apple purée, add a splash of elderflower cordial and grapefruit juice and voila. I have to say on a warm evening it is has a perfectly refreshing taste and I just love the way it arrives before you stir it - I'll leave you to see what I mean...
Naturally there are plenty of drinks to choose from the menu with Whiskeys, Martinis and other cocktails from £11.50. They also have some very nice wine by the glass (from £6.50). Click here to see the sample cocktail menu.
The recent new food menu has some tasty snacks to whet your appetite before heading out to dinner. Perhaps mini Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding (£9) or Shepherd’s Pie fritters (£8). The sharing platters are always fun and they are offered in two sizes depending on how peckish you are (£24/£27). Or maybe you fancy half a dozen Oysters (£11.50). I loved the Welsh rarebit with salad of tomato and red onion (£8) which was presented on a lovely wooden board and next time might try the Duck Spring rolls (£10.50).
The lights are dimmed as the evening draws in giving the bar a warm, cosy feel. It’s always busy and not easy to get a table, but there is the bar at the front and the most wonderfully comfortable high-backed chairs along the very tall front windows where you can watch Londoners go by. The ambience is modern and stylish with a real sense of space thanks to the high ceiling.
See if you can spot the rowing boat and huge oars and other interesting pieces of original contemporary art dotted around...
