It has been said that Sea Shell makes the best fish & chips in London.

It was certainly busy on the Monday evening we were there. In fact it was full and its reputation is clearly well-earned as a former London Mayor hurried in to join some friends as we were enjoying our meal!

The atmosphere is cosy and fun with a real buzz when busy. The staff are delightful and attentive.

They offer a very good selection of Starters such as soup of the day with fresh Crusty bread (£4.50), Deep Fried Calamari (£5.50), classic Prawn Cocktail (£6) or how about the King Scallops (£8).  We opted for the Devilled Whitebait (£5.50) and Calamari – both were excellent.  If there are a few of you, perhaps a Smoked Fish Platter (£14.50) with Smoked Scottish Salmon, Yellowfin Tuna, Swordfish, Smoked Trout, Eel and Mackerel?

Again the main courses offer plenty of choice from their Famous Traditional Fish and Chips, starting from £14.50 for the 340g cod to Haddock, Sea bass, Skate and Dover Sole to mention just a few.  House dishes include Fishcakes (£11.85), Fish Pie (£14.50), which was my choice and very tasty.  For you meat lovers, they do also serve Aged Fillet Steak (£19.50) and Chargrilled Chicken Breast (£14.50).

They also do a Kids Menu for £8.95.

We didn’t go for a dessert but were tempted by the Apple Crumble (£4.50) and they do have the good old traditional Spotted Dick for those who love those wonderful stodgy desserts!

Glasses of wine start from a reasonable £4.95.

Dinner for the two of us for two courses and a glass of wine each and coffee came to £60 excluding service.

The restaurant is open Monday – Saturday (closed on Sunday) from 12noon-2:30pm and then 5pm-10:30pm.

Next door they also have a really excellent and popular Fish & Chips Take Away Shop which shares the same kitchen as the restaurant.
