Lifestyle Salon & Spa

Stepping off the buzzing streets of Holbon and into what I thought was a standard Le Pain au Quotidien to down a mint tea to kill some time before my treatment at Aveda Institute Salon and Spa, I quickly discovered that it is in fact attached to the salon itself and customers can actually order straight from the menu whilst they are undergoing master DIY works on their locks!

Perching on a black bench like sofa, I tried to keep out the way as staff and customers continued to come back and forth as no seat went un sat on and no stylist left twiddling their thumbs – a sure sign already of the popularity of the place. Acknowledging the friendly exchanges always being made, on closer inspection I could tell that these weren’t just the whims of pleasant small talk but in fact regulars who were catching up on the ins and outs of daily gossip with their favourite technicians, helping to release any tension and apprehension I may have had at having someone I don’t know cut my tassels.

However, first I was to let my anxieties and tensions fly away as Michael, my masseuse, whisked me away to the realms downstairs to indulge in a stress fix massage. Whilst, upstairs was a charade of noise and hustle and bustle, downstairs you could probably hear a pin drop as you are swept up in darkness in the simple, jet black décor.

Starting with a detoxing foot scrub, I sit back in my robe and begin to relax. Next to the heated bed, I breathe in the relaxing stress-fix aroma oils and feel the tension begin to release as Michael works through my knots and use mastered techniques to ease the muscles back to their supple state. Finishing with a delicious mint tea, my whole body feels like it has been through an intense workout followed by a long and thorough stretch as the stress disappears and muscles relax.

Back upstairs, I am quickly brought back to the busy world and find myself chatting with my technician about my next look and style. Watching strands fall to the floor, I am talked through every snip and swipe before experiencing the quickest yet stylish blow dry I am yet to have. Finishing off with a few trims and cuts to my new sweeping fringe, I find myself staring into the mirror with a girlish grin at my new do.

Not a hair salon for those after a quiet experiencing but if time is of the essence, a friendly bustling team required and an expertly finished cut wanted, then Aveda lives up to its name and provides nothing but the highest of quality experiences.
