Hotel in Haiti
Perched on a hillside overlooking the ocean, the friendly little Hotel Habitation Jouissant is one of Haiti’s hidden gems. Recently renovated, the rooms are super comfortable and some even boast extras such as telescopes on balconies to enable guests to enjoy the spectacular views.
There is a lovely swimming pool and the LIME bar serves delicious cocktails, wines and the refreshing Haitian Prestige beer, not to mention Barbancourt rum! There is regular live music and a warm, friendly atmosphere. The restaurant which wraps around the property serves well-cooked local specialities as well as good steaks, fresh lobster and mouth-watering desserts.
Clientele includes businesspeople, travellers who have come to visit the Citadelle or nearby Cap Haitien, or just enjoy the local beaches (peaceful Labadie Beach is 20 minutes away).
The hotel is suitable for couples looking for a romantic break, families and solo travellers visiting the region on business. The area is undergoing huge development at the moment as The World bank has ploughed US$45 into improving roads and access to the Citadelle with a view to making it a world-class destination.
Habitation Jouissant is outside Cap Haitien which has an international airport with connecting flights to Miami (a 2½ hour flight) and The Dominican Republic (45 minutes). Flights to the capital Port au Prince take about 25 minutes, making this an ideal spot to visit local landmarks and enjoy some of Haiti’s beautiful and undiscovered Caribbean landscapes.
