Restaurant Lijsterbes

Restaurant in Ghent

5-Star Belgian High Tech Restaurant

Lijsterbes is a hidden gem located just outside Ghent and well worth the trip for its amazing natural cuisine.

I celebrated an important birthday with family and friends and booked the Chef's Table, which accommodates between 6 and 12 people. Pleasantly located in the kitchen, right next to where it all happens. Chef Geert Van Der Bruggen and his crew were surprisingly calm and content, nothing like the buzz, shouting and stress you see on TV cooking shows!  The atmosphere was relaxed, professional and overall very enjoyable.

We started the evening with aperitifs served in the garden.  The exceptionally well presented five-course dinner served at the kitchen table was enriched by surprise dishes.  The Chef served us personally and took time to introduce us to each dish and its obscure ingredients.

Desserts (plural!) were served in the comfortable and cosy lounge.  Coffee and freshly prepared petit fours announced the end of our dinner, which to our surprise, took us well into the small hours.  It didn't seem that long indeed.

Lijsterbes is a cosy and intimate restaurant in which to celebrate a special occasion, with its fabulous cuisine and excellent service.  For those of you who do not know, Chef Geert Van Der Bruggen is a well-known Belgian celebrity chef.

Open for lunch from 12noon to 5pm (last orders 2pm) and for dinner from 7pm to 1am (last orders 9pm).
