With Christmas fast approaching we thought we would take a look at what some of the hotels around London are doing this year and in particular One Aldwych, which always puts on a great show with a themed and creative Christmas Tree every year.
They have really upped the anti this year with a 25-foot ‘Showtime Christmas Tree’ in the double height Lobby Bar inspired by One Aldwych’s Covent Garden Theatreland location and features miniature set designs from popular West End shows dotted around the tree which have been meticulously made by hand by Mark Siredzuk, the hotel’s resident florist.
To compliment this magnificent Christmas tree, the Lobby Bar team have created five very special ‘Showtime Cocktails’, all of which are topped with Perrier-Jouët Brut Champagne and accompanied with some delicious mini mince pies!
The first cocktail is themed on the world-famous Nutcracker and made with Beluga Russian vodka, fig liqueur, green apple purée, drops of cardamom bitters and topped up with Perrier-Jouët Brut Champagne. The second, Royal Santa is a mix of home-made hibiscus liqueur, fresh pomegranate juice, cinnamon foam and again topped with Perrier-Jouët Brut Champagne. Christmas Club is created with a home-made orange liqueur, raspberry syrup, fresh lemon juice and topped up with Perrier-Jouët Brut Champagne, whilst Festive Treat, fourth on the list, is made with Havana 7 rum, Antica Formula, Lapponia blueberry liqueur, drops of blueberry cheesecake flavour, sugar syrup, fresh lemon juice and topped up with Perrier-Jouët Brut Champagne. Last and by no means least is Carol Fizz, made with Plymouth gin, rhubarb liqueur, framboise liqueur, elderflower cordial, fresh lemon juice, gold leaf and of course topped up with Perrier-Jouët Brut Champagne.
However, that’s not all, as Executive Chef Dominic Teague has created a rather special Christmas twist to One Aldwych’s already popular Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea, which kicks off with a special ‘Cocktail Charlie’ or glass of Lallier Champagne. The tea itself is made up with delicious treats such as a golden chocolate egg and chocolate caramel milk, some home-made candyfloss, gingerbread and white chocolate pops and cocoa bean financiers. An afternoon tea is not complete without warm scones and seasonal tea sandwiches and of course there are some tasty savouries to get you into the festive spirit.
One Aldwych is also well-known for its film nights and this Christmas is no exception, when you can enjoy a unique ‘Festive Film & Fizz with Curzon’ dinner and movie programme at the weekends from 24th November through December in their private screening room and lovely Indigo restaurant overlooking the Lobby Bar. After all, who would want to miss such classics as White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Miracle on 34th Street or It’s A Wonderful Life and one if my favourites, Love Actually.
In addition, you will be able to enjoy a festive lunch or dinner in Indigo from the end of November though to Christmas, with dishes such as a Home-cured Loch Duart salmon and Loin of Highland venison as well as some mouth-watering desserts which includes a Pistachio and polenta cake, candied orange and clementine sorbet.
