Vienna is located in the eastern side of Austria and is close to the borders of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.

The English name is Vienna, but the official German name is Wien, and is the name most countries call it.  Vienna consists of 23 districts (Bezirke).

The city enjoys warm summers with average high temperatures of around 22 to 26 °C (72 to 79 °F), sometimes exceeding 30 °C (86 °F) and lows around 15 °C (59 °F).

Vienna has a strong reputation for art and culture, including the theatre, opera, classical music and fine arts. The Burgtheater is considered possibly one of the best theatres in the German-speaking world.

Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra

Vienna is also famous for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, dating back to 1842 when musicians from the Court Opera decided to present a series of concerts independent of their opera work.  This structure remains unaltered today, playing both opera performances and concerts.  When performing operas they are state employees, but when playing concerts outside the opera house, they are members of a private association.

Transport Network

Vienna has an extensive transportation network and public transport consists of buses, trams, and 5 subway lines (U-Bahn).  Trains are operated by the ÖBB. Vienna is also well connected by road.

Vienna International Airport is located 18 km (11.18 miles) southeast of the city next to the town of Schwechat.
