The city of Mainz is a river port city situated to the west of Frankfurt in the western part of Frankfurt-Rhine-Main and is located on the west bank of the River Rhine.

Mainz has a long history that dates back to the Roman Empire when it was founded as a military post in the late 1st Century BC. But its more recent notoriety comes from being the city where the movable-type printing press was invented, where the very first books printed by movable-type were made here by Gutenberg in the 1450s.

Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) is just 25 minutes by train and goes directly into the airport terminals via Line S8.

Wine Production
Mainz is known for its excellent wine and is a one of the main German wine producing regions and a member of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network.
