Lisbon or Lisboa as it is known in Portuguese is a popular tourist destination and is ranked as one of the ten most visited cities in Southern Europe.

It is also a very old city, older in fact than Rome or London.  Average temperatures are warm being in Southern Europe with mild winters and hot summers with temperatures hitting the low 30s in Celsius or 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Architecture, Arts and History

The city’s history can be seen through its diverse architecture, be it Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, Modern and Post-Modern.  Lisbon has a number of Museums, the most famous being The National Museum of Ancient Art (Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga).  The city’s Opera House is popular for its cultural performances (Teatro Nacional de São Carlos).

Lisbon has a comprehensive public transport infrastructure with a good Metro and Tram system, being perhaps the best way to see the city.   Alfa Pendular is their high speed rail network linking the major cities in Portugal.  Lisbon Portela is the main Airport.
