48 Hours in Las Vegas by Kendra Ford.
Not since the heyday of Dean Martin and Sinatra has Las Vegas seen such a resurgence. The Hangover breathed life back into Sin City and being inebriated has never looked so chic. Vegas is a travel destination the world over, and no one is immune to its glitzy charms. As a frequent visitor to Las Vegas I can attest that 48 hours in Vegas is the perfect amount of time. 24 hours is not enough, 72 hours is overkill. Everything you need to experience in Vegas can be done, and done fabulously I might add, in 48.
If you can swing it, the best times to fly into McCarran International Airport is early in the morning before 10:30am or after 9:00pm. Any other time of the day the airport is jammed and the cab line can be brutal as you wait and bake in the desert sun.
Day 1 – Friday
Maximize your weekend and fly in on a Friday so that you get two good nights of Vegas fun under your belt. Hit the scene hard on your first night and spend the rest of your weekend relaxing. When it comes to Vegas hotels, personally I always stay at the Wynn Tower Suites and have never had a negative experience. Girlier than the other luxury hotels on the Strip, the Wynn’s use of whimsical decorative elements, bright color, and warm lighting lend to it’s feminine elegance. If you’re looking for a throwback to old school Las Vegas, Caesars Palace is the place to stay, and if you just want opulent luxury at its best, nothing beats the Bellagio.
If you arrive before check-in leave your bags with the front desk and explore the Casino. If shopping is more your cup of tea, take a short walk over to the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace and immerse yourself in the luxury of designer labels from Agent Provocateur to Valentino. Take a late lunch at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago for a glass of chardonnay and a shrimp cocktail at the bar. Chat up the bartenders and you will get all the insider tips on the best nightspots (and they might even make a call to a friend who will put you on the VIP list at PURE).
Head back to your hotel, check into your room, take a nap, and get ready for dinner. Make a 9:30PM dinner reservation at N9NE Steakhouse at the Palms and treat yourself to a divine steak and celebrity spotting. N9NE never disappoints with an upscale crowd and chic atmosphere. For 360 degree people watching get a seat at the round bar in the middle of the dining room for an even better view.
Take a 5-minute cab ride back to the Strip to walk the lights and revel in the debauchery of Sin City on your way to PURE at Caesar’s Palace. Voted the #1 Nightclub in Vegas by E! Entertainment, PURE is everything that you would expect from a Las Vegas club. PURE is the preferred nightclub of IT celebrities and Kim Kardashian was having her bachelorette party the evening we attended. There is no specified closing time at PURE, posted as the “early morning hours,” so party at your own discretion.
Day 2 – Saturday
Sleep in and order room service. Having gotten your late night nightclub experience out of the way, treat yourself to breakfast in bed. I have never seen a fluffier egg-white omelet than breakfast room service at the Wynn. Have your concierge make a reservation for a cabana at the Marquee Dayclub at the Cosmopolitan and spend the rest of the afternoon lounging at the hottest pool party in Vegas. Marquee Dayclub, like its counterpart nightclub, boasts the best in music with world-renown DJs, beautiful scenery, and killer grapefruit mojitos.
After the pool, dress to impress and have and old school Vegas evening. Indulge in dinner at Sushi Roku for unparalleled Japanese cuisine. A local hot spot that never fails to fulfill every appetizing whim of my palate, Sushi Roku is the epitome of chic Las Vegas dining. For an idyllic dining experience, opt for the Chef’s specials and the Hot and Cold Appetizers rather than same-old sushi.
Known for their over-the-top productions, see a Las Vegas show after dinner. The Beatles LOVE Show has been getting consistently rave reviews for 5 years running, or Jersey Boys at the Palazzo Resort and Casino, also an excellent choice.
After the show if you’re still game for more fun, head back to the Wynn and dance the rest of the night and early morning away at TRYST. The dance-floor looks out over an impressive waterfall with outdoor tables as the DJ spins the best mix of 80’s classics with the intense dance beats of today (by far my favorite dance spot in Vegas).
Day 3 – Sunday
No wake-up calls allowed as you enjoy another morning of uninterrupted sleep. Take a break from the greasy breakfast buffets and casino fare and gorge yourself on Hash House a Go Go just off the Strip on Sahara. Known for their organic ingredients, homemade grits, and gargantuan proportions, you will feel full the rest of the day guaranteed. No tourists to be found here, the Sahara location is the place to get a feel for the local scene.
Once last Vegas treat before you head home, spoil yourself with a much deserved spa treatment at one of Las Vegas’s most popular and locally recommended Spa at the Bellagio. After your afternoon of pampering, sit back, relax and enjoy your early evening flight home from a well-executed Las Vegas weekend.
