Da Nang // Citadel // Tomb of Minh Mang // Tomb of Tu Duc // To Mieu Temple Complex...
Central Vietnam is divided into the North Central Coast and South Central Coast with Da Nang being the largest city in the region.
The North Central Coast is made up of six provinces: Thanh Hoa, Nighe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh Tri and Thura Thien-Hue. The South Central Coast is made up of eight provinces: Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.
Climate If you are planning to visit the area between July and November, do check the weather forecast, as this is the typhoon season.
Transportation The main method of transport is taxi, although motorbike taxis are a lot cheaper (and more fun); ask your hotel to book the taxi for you and agree on a price before you set off. Many major hotels offer a complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport, so enquire with them before you arrive.
If you get a taxi on the street, try to insist on a meter; don't be afraid to haggle or try a few drivers before they let you do this as it will save you a lot of cash. If you can show the address written in Vietnamese or better yet the location on a phone, this will also help immensely.
The main international airport is in Da Nang, with others nearby in Huế and Hoi An.
Travelling by train is a cost-effective way to see the country; the stunning views and general travelling experience are well worth it if you are up for a challenge. Insist on a 'soft sleeper' if you want to get any sleep, otherwise you'll be string on the equivalent of a church pew, surrounded by locals that have little comprehension of personal space.
Central Vietnam is beautiful and very fun to travel around; a little caution against scams and rip-offs goes a long way and will make the whole trip much more enjoyable.
