British Airways celebrates 85 years of in-flight service this year and I was recently invited along with five other journalists to see what it is actually like to train to be First Class Cabin Crew in their Heathrow training headquarters at Waterside.

British Airways have opened a pop-up lounge restaurant, cinema and art gallery in London’s Shoreditch for just two weeks to celebrate the launch of its special Olympic Games menu and showcase their 3 Great Britons winners.
Travelling First Class in Qantas’ new A380
My first impression on entering the First Class Cabin, is “wow”! The warm colours are inviting and you can immediately see that the materials and fabrics are of high quality. The seats are perhaps better described as spacious armchairs as you are cocooned in your own personal space, ideal given that this was going to be my home for the next day as I headed from London to Melbourne.
Airline Passengers hit with yet more tax hikes
We often feel in Britain that it is the motorist who is always being hit with increased taxes, but once again it is the airline passenger who is being hit with yet more taxes, this time from The EU. A new ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme) came into effect on January 1st 2012.
So what does it mean for us travellers?
LOT plane does near perfect emergency landing
For those of you who have not seen the incredible emergency landing two days ago of the LOT Airlines Boeing 767-300 do take a look at this video clip of the pilot doing an almost perfect landing on a foam filled runway with no undercarriage.
Lord Forster’s New Thames Hub
Distinguished architect Lord Forster has recently unveiled his plans to design a new airport in the Thames Estuary on the Isle of Grain in Kent.
The grand scheme, which has been branded a ‘pie-in-the-sky’ will not come cheaply, costing at least £50 billion!
Qantas grounds its entire fleet over bitter labour dispute
On what is perhaps the biggest travel weekend, Qantas has grounded all its fleet world-wide. Planes in the air have been allowed to complete their flights. Flights that were due to take off from Australian airports had their baggage off loaded and passengers were told to make their way home.
Are Comfy Cabin Beds the New Trend?
Categories: Air Travel Tags: No 1 Traveller, Airside Bedrooms, Airports, Cabins, Heathrow
I think I speak for everyone when I say that trying to sleep at the airport is a terribly hopeless experience.
With noisy flight announcements every other minute, uncomfortable seating and endless individuals invading our personal space, there is a very slim chance of getting much peace and quiet!
Until now that is...
easyJet Meets its Rival!
If you’re a loyal easyJet flyer then you may be interested to know about their new rival airline FastJet!
It appears that easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, who still owns 38% of the airline, has decided to add a new competitor to the market, FastJet.
To Fly. To Serve. British Airways launches new Branding Campaign
I attended the launch of British Airways’ new branding campaign yesterday and met some of the real life crew who played parts in the TV ad.
Airport Lounges resemble Spas and Restaurants
Air travel has come a long way in recent years with every airline competing for the business traveller. Seats that fold in to flat beds at the touch of a button are the norm these days and lounges that try to outdo their competitors’. Some tempt you with a car service to and from the airport, a haircut in the lounge, a Spa and Jacuzzi or even a massage on the plane...
On Board with Club World
The plane to Washington Dulles was a Boeing 777 and once on board I was directed to my Club World Sleeper seat. Thankfully there is ample storage space in the overhead bins as I hate having to fight for space for my hand luggage and as regular traveller I always like to take a small bag on board with me just in case my case goes astray and I have at least a couple of days worth of clean clothes.

Stuck in the Airport with a Delayed Flight?
Most of us have had to endure it and those that have not, will no doubt
have to at some point of their lives. Yes I’m talking about the dreaded
terminal time caused by a flight delay or even worse, cancellation!
According to flightstats.com July 2011 saw 123,075
flight delays and 3,442 cancellations in Europe alone! Looking at global statistics
the delays were a staggering 523,307 and 26,870 in cancellations.

Most of us have been touched by social media in one way or another; needless to say it has been integrated into our lives seamlessly.
Many of us use Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to name just a few, however many people were surprised when aviation's big player British Airways announced recently it was turning to YouTube to recruit new pilots! It is a bold and positive move.
Airline Strikes, Shares and Suggestions

It seems the threat of industrial action continues to hover over the aviation industry with its
continuous presence in the news. Last month the well-known long-haul airline received a
fair share of the limelight - largely for the wrong reasons. The potential Virgin strike placed
us all on a seesaw of ‘will they, won’t they’ but thankfully we saw a resolution to the strike
before it affected the holiday plans of any passengers.
Dealing with Geese at New York Airports
I read with interest that New York is fed up with the birds and geese in particular that hang around their airports and can cause so much damage to jet engines and have come up with a creative way of dealing with them.
London Airports to get makeover
Terminal 5 at London’s Heathrow airport has been a huge improvement, almost like having a new airport (as long as you don’t see the other old terminals) and work is well underway on the new Terminal 2 replacement. However I read that yet more improvement work is being planned for both Heathrow and Gatwick with an investment of some £4 billion.
Mishandled Baggage on the rise
29.4 million bags worldwide did not fly with their owners last year, an increase of 6 per cent on 2009. In Europe mishandled bags rose to 12.6 bags per 1,000 passengers from 10.9 the year before. The rate however fell in the US to 3.6 bags per 1,000 passengers from 4.
UK Government to possibly introduce regional airport tax
Passengers flying out of UK’s London airports are to possibly face higher taxes in new government proposals to deter people from using Britain’s busiest Terminals. The government is talking about an overhaul of air taxes to help regional airports flourish more and relieve overcrowding in the South East of England.
