What If You Had 24 Hours In Amsterdam?

One of life’s best little pleasures is to ponder the question, ‘what if?’ There’s just something magical about that impossibly endless question. We procrastinate for hours on YouTube, Facebook, and Pinterest, so why not procrastinate a little more with our thoughts? Why not ask ourselves ‘what if?’ What if humans could fly? What if there was a market for bath water to be sold as human tea? What if Marilyn Monroe had Instagram? What if I could spend 24 hours in Amsterdam?

Well, while we can’t answer most of those questions, we can answer the last one because, not only have we pondered it ourselves, we’ve come up with a list of the top things to do should you ever find yourself in The Dam with a day to explore.

Go And Get Yourself A Bike

There is only one way to get around the most famous city in Holland, and that is by bike. Don’t worry if you’re not that well acquainted with anything fitness; Amsterdam has the power to make you fall in love with two wheels and a saddle. Seriously, the first thing you need to do is hire a bike, from there you can explore the cobbled streets and canals in the most amazing fashion possible.

Where’s Waffle Is The Easiest Game Ever

While you’re cycling around the picturesque city of Amsterdam you are going to catch a whiff of something sweet, something delicious, something impossible to ignore, and that scent is going to be a waffle. Amsterdam is as famous for its waffles as it is for its Heineken and its coffee shops. The choice can be overwhelming, though, so we recommend you ignore all temptation and cycle to Delicious Amsterdam. You’ll thank us when you get there.

Go And See A Museum

This city is famed for its museums but, with 24 hours counting down, it is going to be impossible to see them all, or even a teeny tiny fraction of them. To give you an idea of your options, there is Anne Frank’s House, the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Rembrandt Museum, the Verzetsmuseum, the museum Van Loon and about one point four trillion other amazing museums. So pick one and tick 'museum' off your list for now.

Get The Must-Have Selfie

If you need some sway with the whole museum thing then we recommend you head to the Rijksmuseum, not just because it is amazing but because it has that famous ‘I AMsterdam’ letters which everyone gets a selfie with like it is mandatory. With time ticking, this will be a two birds one stone situation.

Catch Your Breath In The Park

We all love people watching. It is a universal thing we share. You’re also going to be tired from all that cycling, so we recommend you stop in Amsterdam’s biggest park, Vondelpark, for a break and a quick people-watching session. Tick.

Do What You Came To The Dam To Do

You’re in Amsterdam and that means there are certain things you have to do. The first is head to a coffee shop and, no, we don’t mean Costa. We are talking about somewhere that will have the words ‘black’ and ‘blond’ on the menu. There are over 200 of them dotted around the city so it won’t be hard to find them. From there, we recommend you grab a Heineken, then head to an upmarket restaurant, indulge to hearts content and then, well, see where the night takes you. Simple. 24 hours in Amsterdam done.
