Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar Opening Spring 2012

I have eagerly been waiting for the transformation of the old Rotunda Lounge and restaurant at The Marriott County Hall on London’s South Bank in to the new Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar. My visit before Christmas for some ‘Winter Warmer’ cocktails impressed me but the place was in much need of refurbishment. On a second visit I got to see the artist’s impression and was very impressed.

The plan is to make the new bar into a true London destination bar creating a quintessentially English drinking experience. The bar will feature 33 English gins, 5 English vodkas and 10 English beers as well as a wonderful collection of cocktails taking you through the ages, designed by Karina Elias the Bar Manager and Carlos Santos the Head Bartender.

Gillray's Restaurant Gillray's Bar

The bar and restaurant has been named after 18th Century caricaturist James Gillray and the new unique and inspired gin and vodka flavoured cocktails are designed to take you back to the time when James Gillray lived and worked right up to the present day, so you can literally sip your way through the ages and enjoy a very long drink indeed!

I will write up a full review on the bar and restaurant when it opens next month and sip my way through the ages to bring you a list of what they have on offer. I will start in the Georgian Era (1714-1830) and then move my way to the Victorian Era (1837-1901), then on to the Edwardian Era (1901-1910) and if I can still stand up, finish off in modern Britain of today with some new concept cocktails.
